About the school [1] [2] [3] [4]

Headington Prep on Franklin Road in Oxford educates girls and boys aged 3–11, including Nursery. Its 12-acre grounds support a programme combining academic foundations, specialist teaching and activities. Girls can continue to the school’s girls’ senior section, while boys apply to other senior schools.

Progression to senior school [2] [3]

Girls normally continue to Headington’s senior school without a separate 11+ entrance examination, subject to the school’s assessment of their suitability for the next stage. Boys and girls applying elsewhere receive guidance on applications, assessments and interviews. Visits, workshops and lessons with senior-school staff help girls become familiar with the next stage.

Reporting period
Current policy, approved in 2025

Girls admitted to Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6) on a conditional offer must take the 11+ assessment to secure a senior-school place. Other girls may also be offered the 11+ examination if there are concerns about progression.
