ABOUT THE GUIDE

Methodology and sources

1. How the lists are compiled

Tiptop compiles separate editorial lists for girls’, boys’ and co-educational schools. We consider recent senior-school destinations, the consistency of those pathways and progression within all-through schools. Positions reflect editorial judgement, not a standardised admissions-rate calculation; neighbouring schools may not have a measurable difference in outcomes.

2. Categories and senior-school pathways

Classification follows the current intake of the named Prep or Junior section. Girls’ and boys’ lists consider both day and boarding destinations as well as internal progression; co-educational schools are considered in relation to the options available to both girls and boys. Profiles explain mixed nursery provision and transitions to co-education where relevant.

3. Dates and types of outcome

2026 is the guide’s edition year. Each result retains its own reporting period, with priority given to 2024–2026 material. Offers, accepted places and actual destinations are distinguished, and internal progression is described with the school’s conditions. Scholarship figures specify awards or pupils as appropriate.

Schools publish different levels of detail. We do not convert these into a common score or an individual admission probability, and limited public data does not imply weaker school performance.

4. Sources

Profiles primarily use schools’ admissions information, published outcomes and formal policies, with links to the original sources. Boarding provision, entry requirements and progression arrangements can change; families should check the policy for their intended entry year.
